Pismo Beach Pier
Since its initial establishment in 1881, the Pismo Beach pier has undergone several changes and improvements. In 1924, the pier experienced its first change when it was rebuilt two blocks south of its original location, where it permanently sits today. After harsh storms and weather conditions, the pier was again rebuilt in 1985 with its popular diamond shape. 93 years later, particular sections of the pier are truly showing their damage and age. With the New Year in full swing, our pier will once again undergo a revamping period to further improve the experience and safety of our community members. This exciting rehabilitation project will bring our residents and visitors an enhanced version of the pier we have grown to know and love. To ensure public safety during this time, the pier will be closed intermittently, however, public access will remain a top priority as the pier is a large asset to the community. Rehabilitation is expected to reach completion by July 2019 with a variety of new features such as coastal lighting, information boards about sea life and the pier’s history, public art, food options along the length of the pier, wine and cultural event holding, and drinking fountains with bottle fillers. We are looking forward to this monumental update to our town’s iconic landmark.
